Optical Tables and Breadboards in Bengaluru, India – Buyer's Guide

An optical table or breadboard is the foundation of every laser and optics setup. It holds components rigidly, keeps them aligned and isolates them from floor vibration. Britton designs and builds optical tables, breadboards and supports in Bengaluru and supplies research labs, universities and industry across India.

Honeycomb optical tables and tabletops

Honeycomb tabletops combine a stiff steel honeycomb core with a 5 mm ferromagnetic steel top skin, M6 tapped holes on a 25 mm grid (sealed against spills) and a surface flatness of ±0.1 mm/m². They are available from 600 × 1000 mm up to 1500 × 3600 mm and 200, 300 or 400 mm thick. Thicker and larger tops give higher rigidity for long beam paths and interferometry. Solid aluminium and stainless steel breadboards

For compact setups, solid breadboards are a cost-effective choice. Britton aluminium breadboards are black anodized, 10 or 12.7 mm thick, with M6 tapped holes on a 25 mm grid, starting from 100 × 100 mm. Stainless steel breadboards (10 mm thick) offer higher stiffness and a magnetic surface. Aluminium optical breadboards · Stainless steel optical breadboards.

Supports and vibration isolation

Place breadboards and tabletops on a rigid steel support frame (600 × 600 mm to 1500 × 2400 mm, with levelling feet) for general optics, or on pneumatic vibration isolators (500–700 mm high, automatic levelling) for vibration-sensitive experiments. Complete vibration isolation workstations are available in several sizes.

Accessories

Overhead shelves (900 to 3600 mm) keep controllers and power supplies off the table surface. Mount components with Ø12.7 mm optical posts, post holders and post bases.

How to choose

  • Size: allow space for your full beam path plus room to expand.
  • Thickness: 200 mm suits most labs; choose 300–400 mm for large tables or interferometry.
  • Isolation: rigid supports for general optics; pneumatic isolators near machinery, in upper floors or for interferometry.
  • Hole pattern: M6 on a 25 mm grid is standard and matches Britton optomechanics.
